I take commissions for original oil paintings of all scientific subjects; a study species, a favorite animal, a piece for a lab or even an office wall.
ABOUT THE WORK
Commissions
I paint the animals I work with. Between fieldwork and the bench, I spend my days with crustaceans, fish, and shellfish that most people never see up close — and there's a beauty in them that data alone can't hold onto. These paintings are my attempt to keep that: the color, the texture, the strangeness and humor of aquatic life as it actually looks to someone studying it.

Larger pieces are quoted individually after we talk through the subject and level of detail.

Delivery
I'll share progress along the way, so nothing about the finished piece is a surprise.
PROJECT TIMELINE
How long does it take?
Pieces 20 × 20 inches and under typically take about one to two months, depending on complexity. Larger work needs more time and planning, and I'll give you a realistic estimate up front.
I paint alongside a full-time research career, which means I take on a limited number of commissions at a time and build the schedule around doing each one properly.
